Four extended rituals towards community healing and growth of collective awareness
These improvisations were birthed during the expanded creative processing and refinement of a nonlinear, holistic, integrative, and holographic classical performance and preparation methodology.
This methodology was first created by the artist in 2019, culminating in their 24+ hour performance of Erik Satie’s Vexations.
This methodology rebukes linear, capitalist, industrialist, and hegemonic standards to instead center the musician’s integrative listening to their mind, body, spirit, and environment, and celebrates co-creation and neurodivergence over of alienation and efficiency.
This heart-centered reprioritization of the musician’s self, spirit, and process over the product of their labor is in direct protest of the violent colonialism of creative consciousness attempted through incredible rigidity and restriction of classical standards and all societal functions that mirror and reproduce these standards in our culture, politics, and history.
In this psychoanalytic series, the artist creates four improvisatory solo piano pieces based on Gestalt psychology principles. Through subversive preparation techniques, historiographical embodiment, and playful exploration, the artist joyfully trespasses beyond false boundaries of sensory, psychological, and spiritual confinement.
